Travel + Fashion Takeover Manila Workshop
I happened to see in the “popular post” section on Instagram
the post of Viajera Filipina about the Travel + Fashion Takeover Workshop which she, together
with Our Awesome Planet,We are Sole Sisters, Travel Fashion Girl and Solitary Wanderer hosted last June 3rd. To my
excite, I registered right away for the event at A Space in Greenbelt.
Everything about this event is so memorable for me
because: (1) it is my first time attending such event (and it’s even for
free, how’s that? wink wink); (2) my first time going at the said event’s place, which I never
thought it existed somewhere in Greenbelt =); (3) I got to meet travelers alike who wants to travel as
often as possible however, with a very tight budget; and the best part of it
(4) Raffle prizes haha. I won a prize of two nights hotel accommodation for 2 pax at
Four Points Hotel by Sheraton in Bangkok c/o Agoda (Thank you Agoda!!!). This
was the first time I won a raffle prize as I am actually not lucky at raffles contests.
So basically, the workshop was conducted by Alex from
travelfashiongirl.com and it is all about travel planning and capsule wardrobe.
I never thought that you can use a carry-on luggage for a 1 or 2 weeks’
vacation. I always believe that those carry-on luggage are only good for 3-4 days’
stuffs. I should have learned this before my trip in South Korea and saved me
from paying the excess baggage fees on my way home =( Here are the
key-points to consider when planning your vacation:
· Weather
Always
check the weather of your destination. This way, you may plan the things you
need to bring and the activities that you can do.
·
Activities
Make
a list of activities that you intend to do during your vacation and it is best
to plan accordingly to save time.
·
Local Customs
Consider
the local beliefs and customs of your destination. Wear respectful clothing in
conservative areas such as temples and mosques.
·
Budget
Make
a budget of all your expected expenses during your trip. Decide and set aside a
budget for new clothing or travel gear. It is best to invest on durable and
reliable travel gear especially when you travel frequently.
·
Duration of your trip/ Length of trip
Are
you staying for 4 days, 1 week or 2 weeks? Determine how long you intend to
stay in a certain place, in this way you can plan the things you need to bring,
the clothes you need to prepare and the activities that you want to do.
Capsule wardrobe?
What is it? Honestly, this was the first time I heard about capsule wardrobe. Capsule
wardrobe consists of only 8-15 pieces of clothing and by or a "capsule
wardrobe is a collection of clothes and accessories that includes only items considered
essential" (www.freedictionary.com).
I’ve learned from
the workshop that when you pack your clothes, pack only that is good for 1 week
whether it is a 1 week to 1 year vacation. You should plan on doing laundry
once a week when you travel and as much as possible use fabrics that dry up
quickly.
When packing for
clothes, always consider the fabric. Is
the clothing item lightweight or heavy weight? The lighter the item, the
lighter the overall bag will be. Does it
take too much space? Fold and roll the garment to determine if it is bulky. It is too sheer or transparent? Avoid
items requiring layer underneath. During winter, avoid cotton for trips over
1-2 weeks as cotton fabric does not keep you warm. It is preferable to use Marino
wool or synthetics. Is the fabric
durable? Longer trips require quality clothing that won’t fall apart after
a few weeks.
After considering
the fabrics, how do you choose the pieces?
· Make sure each item are versatile and can be worn in
various settings
· Each clothing item should mix and match
· Choose 1 color story
· Determine each piece looks good with the other
· Try everything on. How many outfits can you make?
For your shoes,
three things to consider: (1) Comfort, (2) Function and (3) Style. Choose your
shoes that go with all of your chosen clothing pieces and choose the more neutral
style.
So there you go guys, plan now, pack your things and off to your next adventure.
